New to this

i have a 80 gal tank and would like to set it up as a planted tank with fish
i know nothing about freshwater tanks
ive ben in the saltwater reef tanks for over 14 years and just would like to try a freshwater tank with plants but like i said i know nothing where do i begain

Lights do i need?
gravel?
do i need an undergravel fliter to do this?
i do have a ro/di water filter i use on my saltwater reef tank
how much water flow do i need on an 80 gal tank?
how much light? watts per gal?
please give me a list to get started on this.
what do i need to test my water for is it like saltwater?

im sure i have a lot to learn

Take a few minutes and read my Guide. It will answer most of your questions.

Short answers.

Light 2-4 wpg.
You need some sort of substrate.
NO!
NO!
Less than a reef but more than a fish only tank.

You really don't need to test at all if you use the EI method.

And you forgot to ask about CO2.

Mike, Welcome to the Planted Tank.
There are many people here with all the experience needed to help you. If you read Rex's guide, you will gather some of the best info around. He has really done his homework. Then start reading and searching the post here at the planted tank. If you read the post, someone sooner or later will ask your question or has answered it already. Believe me, this is a great forum to belong to.
