hey all.. I have a few questions about my new tank setup..

It has been running for about 2 weeks now 35 gal tank with 65 w lights.
laterite/gravel substrate. I got the fish and water from my friend hence the nil cycle time... Anyways I had 3 tiger barbs and a small pleco all doing fine for a week now. Well yesterday I went and bought some extras for the tank..

3 more tiger barbs
2 albino tigers
2 tinfoil barbs (BIG MISTAKE) (these GROW to over 12 inches LONG... im going to have to take them back)

6 corscrew vals
1 really nice Rotella indica
1 catdalline (sp)?

the vals are planted easy.. the rotella and catdelline came in a sponge wraped with a metal wire tie.. how go i plan these 2??? just in the substrate alone or with the sponge and wire???

Also in the span of today I lost 2 of the new Tigers (both Females )
and im hopeing nothing else goes... I did the usual new tank acclimation but I guess maybe too much stress?

Also Got a nice test kit tested about 7.5 ph, ammonias and nitrites 0ppm
and General Hardness GH? 10.

does this sound ok???

Also what should i buy in the way of fertilizer??

im going to take the tinfoils and 2 dead barbs back to the store I hope i can get some credit for them

Thanks

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Sorry to hear that, maybe they are stressed up.I added 10 ml of hagen aqua plus to reduce stress when acclimation. you can try that.

Don't start fertilizations if the plants is still establishing. You will see algae all over the tank.

I cut away the plants since i prefer planting them with tweezer.
Are you going to use co2 for the tank?

You should remove the sponge that they came in and then plant them.

That is a really good question Enermac...a couple of my plants came with a metal wire and a rubber band at the bottom. Should this be removed? The pet store had them in the water with this stuff on them but will it harm the fishes?
