Will discus work in this tank?

I've always wanted discus and since I'm going to have to redo my tank due to a move in about a month, I'm wondering whether this would be a good idea. I've been doing fish for 25+ years, and planted tanks for about 10 years. My concern is that my tank may be a bit small. I do have some awesome local sources for good quality adult discus. My aquascape is very similar to the tank by Jeffboyarrdee (https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/ph...ada-dutch.html) in that there are a bunch of stems in back with a lot of free space in front. The tank is 60 gallon (90 x 48 x 56 cm - 36 x 20 x 22 in) with 100% Aquasoil, pH is about 5.8 and the KH stays around 2 - 3 °dKH, and the tank stays in the low 80's without a heater on. My apistogramma trifasciatas and BN plecos have successfully bred and raised babies in this tank. I'm not really interested if the discus breed or not, I'd just like to have a discus display tank.

What do you think, will this work?

you could do 5-6 in there pretty easy if they are not juvies...6 might be on the high side, 5 might be a lil better...Then ya might wanna get 6, an let them establish themselves. The runt will not make it, but the rest of the 5 will do fine....The fish load ya got looks like mostly clean up crew....Just feed alot, an do Wc's...

It will work just fine. Get a TDS meter and study up on the effects of TDS on Discus. Good luck.....DC

yep I've got a TDS meter and a RO unit that I almost never use. And there's an UV on the tank too for GW and just-in-cases. What is your recommendation for the TDS range?

Well, I would love the wilds but I also love the more traditional blue turquoise and blue diamond types as well. I really dislike the freckled, pigeon blood kinds and the colors that are red, orange, white, etc.

IMO, wilds need lower TDS than domestics, but depends on where they came from. Best bet is to keep it below 200 and after they are comfy, test the comfort zone to set a benchmark. I have no problem keeping mine below 250, I just did a 25% water change and TDS was 80 before ferts. I found 3 water changes 25%, 25%, & 50% weekly along with dosing on the same schedule works for me......DC
