All my fish.. dead!

I just want to scream! My neon tetras and my 10 cherry red shrimp are all dead! I left for three days, and when I get home the power had gone off. the filter stopped, heater stopped, co2 stopped, and everything is dead! The plants are fine, thank goodness.

I tore the whole thing down and washed everything to get the rotten tetra smell off. I am so angry man! My tank looks brand new again and it looked so good before!

I think I'm most sad about my cherries... :-(

if it was power, shouldn't your heater started again, and your C02 as well ... the only thing that should have stayed stopped is your filter if it wasn't a self-priming model?

Is Hokey Pokey Really What It's all about ?

It sounds like you might have had all this plugged into a powerstrip which didn't reset? Sorry to hear it, I know I've had a fish-kill or two, I think probably most of the folks in the hobby have. Doesn't make it any better though .

Sláinte!

Try to learn something from this sad event. For example, why would having the power off for three days cause all of the fish to die? Is it the lack of water circulation, leading to oxygen shortage? Whatever it is, maybe there is a backup system that would prevent fish deaths when there is a power outage.

Yes, it was all plugged into one strip. We also ahve those GCI outlets (I think that's what they are called) and when the power goes out you have to press the button, but no one was there to press it.

I think no water circulation cut reduced the oxygen big time, while the co2 was going full force it OD'd the fish. I think one or two fish died and probably killed the rest.

What, did they turn into fish zombies and terrorize your tank?

In all seriousness, a power outage shouldn't trip a GFI outlet. Could there be a short in your lighting that caused the GFI to trip? Most of us here use GFI outlets for our tanks and I haven't heard of them tripping during power outages.

Sure there could. I got my hood from a fleamarket, $1.

Come to think of it, a week or so ago I had trouble with the lights not coming on. I had to ...shake the hood to get them on...

To wal-mart!
