USPS Priority boxes

Did the usps do away with the smaller boxes? The only ones I can order are the 8.10 delivery boxes now.

Even through their website? I know my local branch only carries one size (about a 14"x12"x3") but I have seen several available through the USPS.com site. I have received a few plants packages recently which were packaged in the smaller VHS Cassette sized boxes which would lead me to believe that they are still available somehow/somewhere.

I haven't found any at the full USPS branches, but I did manage to snag 5 or 6 from one of those "kiosks" inside a regular store.

I have found that different post office's carry different size PM boxes. Around here all PM boxes are $4.25 each to ship, no matter the size.

hmmm, I've been buying my packaging for shipping plants from Staples.

so what is required to get free boxes?
do you pick up the free boxes at the PO?
or do they actually ship it to your home?

do you have to buy postage online too?
at work we can get free boxes from
UPS/FedEx where we have accounts.

you can get them from the PO or have them shipped to your home for free. it takes a while to get to you though. you can buy postage at the PO or online. if you buy postage online you can arrange to have them pick up the package the next day (also free of charge) too. but you have to arrange it by a certain time the day before. only for priority mail service

If you tank a Priority Box
and put First Class Postage on it,
what happens?
will it self destruct?
will Federal Marshall's arrest you?
will the box simply be returned to sender?
will the box go through first class regardless?

I think I remember a neat trick about this.

You get the Priority Boxes free from USPS
but when you reassemble them, you do it
INSIDE OUT which is just plain brown cardboard.

just cut the glued corner and tape it back together.

that way you can put whatever postage you
want on it, and not have any problems later.

you can argue the ethics of this another day.
I wonder if there was a legal problem doing this
with the PO. not as a business, but as an individual.
I don't see any warning on the box regard misapplication
or USPS on the inside surface, like you might
on return postage prepaid envelopes.

I have used the flat rate boxes but only put enough shipping on there for priority and it went through just fine. I'm not sure if this is "allowed" but it has worked

spypet, i think they tried to curtail that by printing "priority mail" all over the inside of the boxes. but i've only seen it for the vhs-tape-sized ones. i guess you can do the inside-out method for the bigger boxes. i did that a few times but tired of regluing the box back together. then i just put white tape on the outside covering all the priority mail graphics. someone told me they were warned about doing the inside-out box thing because the postal clerk recognized the size of the box, etc.. lol. i think it just depends on how anal your clerks are. some are more strict about the rules than others.
