One of the best investments I've made so far...

I'm not sure why this isn't more popular, or maybe I just haven't looked hard enough but...

I was looking to add a black background to my 40 breeder. Unfortunately, I was struggling with options because my tank has been filled and established for a while, so while fully filled there was no chance of moving it in an easy fashion.

This left me with a couple options:
1) drain and move the tank
2) find a simpler solution.

I decided I'd try option 2 before anything else. I knew painting the back wasn't going to be easy, so I opted to purchase a black vinyl background. Needless to say this turned into a nightmare trying to get all the bubbles out, so I ended up trashing it.

I decided to head to Hobby Lobby and browse various options. I came home with black felt and some stick on Velcro. I cut it down to size, and stuck it on in <5 minutes! Turns out, it was super easy to install, I payed only $7, and it looks just like a painted background in my opinion!

So if anyone else was in the same boat as me, or just wants an easy cheap solution, I recommend trying this.

Cheers TPT :-)

I literally love my aquarium(s).

I painted a roll of craft paper black and then just taped it to the tank.

Paper was my next plan if the felt didn't work...it just so happened that they had a 36"x36" sheet of felt, which made it easy to cut to size for a 40B haha

Looks very similar to the setup I'm working on, 40b with black background. I planned ahead and sprayed the back with black plasti-dip instead of spray paint. But the black felt does look very nice too.

With velcro and the felt it seems like you could change it up back round color wise really easily and fairly cheaply. Looks good!

I use the pet-store cheap vinyl background sheet, but didn't try to get it tight to the tank. Looks ok, keep the plants tight enough it doesn't show much anyway

Black poster board does the trick for me. $.99 a sheet at Walmart cant beat that. I jam it between the plastic trim no tape required.

Poster board is terrific. Great if you ever change your mind too.

Looks like I'll be going to hobby lobby this weekend. I'm in the same situation. Only problem with poster board is it will get wet eventually and begin to fall apart.
