Hi! New to the site, but not to tanks.

I currently have a low-tec 29 gallon and a 210 gallon reef.

I'm upgrading the 29 to a 120 that was formerly a reef (before I upgraded that to the 210 )

With the 120 I want to start low-tec, and see where it takes me. I like the look of driftwood in tanks, but am wondering how long it takes dry driftwood to become water-logged enough to sink, or am I missing a trick?

Also, other that tinting the water, are there any major concerns with using driftwood?

Some wood may take weeks to sink, boiling them helps a lot, you can tie them down if you have eggcrate at the bottom of the tank. If you have the $$$, and you probably have considering the 210G reef, buy some african driftwoods, most of them sink right away. Tannin will eventually disappear after water changes.

Ah, all my money is IN the reef.

I like picking my own things, and have picked out several pieces, just wanted to know how long I'm looking at for the soaking time.

most BIG pieces of driftwood are heavy enough that the don't "drift". they sink. at least the ones at work do. i'm talking pieces that would only fit in a 75+. malaysian driftwood btw.
