I just got some from Florida Driftwood. Portions are about golf-ball sized. Have it in my "quarantine" tank until I get my 20g setup. Only thing I didn't like about the x-mass moss from Florida DW is that it has a lot of crap in it, I'll have to try cleaning it out.

Well i am growing Java moss in the same tank as the x-mas moss was going to go into. I have a rock pyamid thing and there is java moss inbetween the rocks so it will cover them. If i could find some i would make a back ground out of it, but i would need alot, it would be for a 29 gallon tank. I guess i am on the look out for stuff that is kinda cheap. thanx

I don't really know, mine grows slow but i ain't got crap for lights on my 29. but i do let the window shades up during the morning and it gets sunlight. Just from the sunlight i can see a great difference of how fast it grows. Plus the tank is getting algae from the sunlight but i want that because i ain't got no fish in there and i have some snails in there breeding and i needed some food for them. Java Moss is great if you does ferts, co2, and have enough lights. then it might even turn a bright green color, which is like the best looking moss ever. lol Plus it has micro Inverts making a colony in it, so people use that in fry tanks. lol

Needs a bit more minimum light than Java Moss, and many people report it doesn't do well in temps over 28C/82F.

Mine is sitting in a 2.5g with 13w ahsupply kit over it until the 20g is ready. It looks like it's doing ok so far, temps are ~78F.

I got some Xmas moss about a year and a half ago. Then it was about the size of a golf ball. Kept in a low light (1.5 wpg) tank with no special care, it is now about the size of a softball. I think it would grow faster with more light.

The tank that has the Xmas moss is a 10 with 15 watts of lighting.

I have a 29 with 60 watts of lighting. 29's are deep and hard to get enough light into, at least using standard flurescent tubes.

It is the number ot watts, not the color temperature, that is most important.

Good luck.

Hi,

Christmas moss (and moss in general) grows very well for me. Had them in a low light, no CO2 tank and growth was painfully slow. They really took off once I transferred them into my main tank, where temps are under 28C/82F, CO2 injected, and lights at about 3.5wpg.

You can have a looksee at this gallery to see the difference in growth in just a few days.
