HC turning yellow randomly, HELP PLEASE :(

I've started a DSM with DC. It's been 3 1/2 weeks. Everything was going fine up until about a week ago, the base of the plants stated turning yellow/brown. It's really worrying me. About a week and a half ago I had extra water sitting on the surface of the Eco-Complete, I siphoned it out. At this point there was a little browning but now it's starting to pop up a lot more. I'm really worries, spraying the tank every other day with room temp water, t5ho lights on from 12-14 hours a day. Am I doing anything wrong? There is still growth but I'm just worried the plants will start to die off. I took some picture with my phone which aren't the greatest, the plants are really green although they look yellow except where you can really see a discoloration in the pictures, mostly in the middle base of the plant of the pictures.

Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it

are you using tap water or R/O water when you are watering the plants? It is best to not use tap water if you can avoid it

12-14 hours seems a bit much
the guide(s) I read suggest 10-12 hours, same as the sun.
I remember there were time when I position 2 CFL too close, the middle area start turning yellow too. irrc light can destroy chlorophyll.

Are those HC on the side grow better? When the parameters are right AND root settle, their leaves are 2x larger. (around from 1mm to 2mm)

Its Its funny you mention that, the ones on the outside seem to be growing much better. I had my light on previously for 12 hours a day and everything was great. I was told 16 hours was the way to go, cutting back on lights for sure
