I have an otocinclus in my small 17 gallon tank and one day (about a month ago) it was gone . . . I searched the tank twice a day for a few days and gave up thinking it had died. Suddenly tonight it reappeared and it looks bigger. Anyone have any ideas about what the heck is going on with my otocinclus?

I've found that they do better in groups. If you have just one, they tend to hide, although a month seems like a long time. I keep 3 now and they're fairly active. I think they just feel more secure in a group.

He went into hiding and gorged himself on the algae on the underside of your plant leaves, hehe.

The same happened with one of mine. I just assumed he had died (even though I couldn't find him). Then one day, there he was right with the pleco!

I have a bushynone pleco, since I could get it at a less price than a common at one of my LFSs.

I haven't had algae since I planted my tank and I think it may be due to my bristlenose (and possibly a silly little albino rainbow shark who thinks he's an algae eater! LOLOL)
