Im in the process of planning a planted tank for some dwarf puffers, i want to get. I know most of them come from Indian Rivers, and I think it would be great to set up a tank that has plant species from the same area. So does anyone know some indian plant species and also what the substrate their used to is? thanks

Hello here is a few plants that come from india:

Hygrophila polysperma (common name Dwarf hygrophila)
its a tallish plant best situated at the rear of the tank, it likes strong light with iron rich fine substrate.

Hygrophila difformis(common name water wisteria)
again another background plant, unfortunatly fish love this plant as food

Cryptocoryne undulata(common name undulate cryptocoryne)
this plant will go background, midground or foreground. Its a slow grower that likes bright lights.

Limnophila aquatica(common name giant ambulia)
this is another background plant almost looks like cobomba grows rapidly with strong light.

Nymphaea stellata(common name red and blue water lilly)
simmalar to tiger lotus except it has spade shaped leaves, good situated in the midground area.

Rotala macrandra(common name giant red rotala)
its oval leaved and deep red in colour likes good strong lighting and iron rich substrate a good background or midground plant.

Vesicularia dubyana(common name java moss)
this is a very undemanding plant best grown on rocks or wood.

Thats just a few that come from india, i have had a few of these plants but i got the info from 1 of my text books.
