Starting a 10g with 110W. Am I crazy

I will have DIY Co2 and fully ferted (excuse me ). Can I do it without algae problems?

Peace,
Ry

I am no expert, but from what I have read, that seems like a buttload of light for a DIY CO2 system

I would find 110 watts a bit un-neccessary . . .why not lower?

well its either 15w t8 or a 110w retro fixture I have laying around. Im not shelling out anymore money for lighting. So since I have 110, well why not.

Peace,
Ry

I say go for it, make sure to suspend the light over the tank as 110W is a lot of heat over a 10gal.

Worst that can happen is you'll have to start over. Big deal. Just keep the co2 and ferts in balance (that's the tricky part). You're gonna want to max out the co2 level of the tank... Probably beyond the point of killing fish; otherwise, you're looking at algae problems.

What plants are you going to put in it?

Doing this will further your knowledge, especially if you can make it work!!!

Why not just buy a bigger tank, say a 50 gallon, and use that?

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....

What is the temp of the tank water using that much wattage? I would think it would heat the water enough to cook an egg......DC

if you have a 10 g and a 110w kit, can you just disconnect the leads to say, half of the bulbs? 5.5 wpg on a 10 gallon will be PLENTY, and you won't be fighting quite as hard to keep things manageable. and your CO2 level might not be lethal to the fish

are you saying just to only use one 55w bulb? I wonder how high I would need to elevate it to cover the whole footprint?

I dont want to shell out anymore money. I got 1 bag of flourite sitting around and it will only cover a 10g footprint at 2" deapth. I am thinkng about getting a 15g high though for $18 from the petshop. maybe a 15g would be better and ill make a 12" high canopy?

Peace,
Ry
