Hi, wanting a planted tank but not enough watts!

I have me a 75 gallon tank, and would really like a planted aqrium with either Discus or Angelfish. But i dont even have enough light, i have around 70 watts of power. I am using caps for the bulbs could i use caps for a 250 watt bulb?

how many bulbs are you using?
2x32 watts?
*just taking a guess*

i would look into over-driving your bulbs. you can easily look up a diy online if you're interested.
you can buy another ballast at a home improvement store and then buy a pair of 40watt bulbs. its still not alot of light but with a little bit of co2 your tank can be successful.
this is my 75 gallon tank with 2x40 watts odno lights and diy co2

but not only that, you can find some real cheap light fixtures out there. check out ebay, i've seen some 260 watt kitts for only $100.
a new ballast will cost $30
two new bulbs will cost $20 each
so for $70 you can do a small upgrade or spend another $50 and get a fixture with decent output. *i'm assuming $25 to ship said fixture*

You can't just switch bulbs. The ballast is most likely only designed to drive 2 38 watt bulbs.
