The clado experiment (a journal of aglae destruction[56k])UPDATE AUG 8 p3

Welcome to the clado experiment. Clado is a topic of discussion on these boards and is rated algae nemesis number one . It likes excel, light, dark, nitrate, no nitrate, C02, and what ever you do or dont do. It survives just like a hardy robust plant. Clado seems to be the hardest of all algae to beat, but there is a mid size consensus that says amano's will eat it. So the question is will they eat it?

Well I am here to journal a tale of 5 amano's and their company 5 cherries, documneted in their battle against a dreadfull bundle of clado. Pictures will be taken every other day of this mass of clado.

The journal starts in their beautiful home, a 2.5g.

as we journey further into the tank we begin to see the formation of a darker green mass in the center of the picture. Yes, thats it. Its CLADO.

The closer we get to the dark green mass of clado we notice something lighter green in the middle of it. What could be trapped in the middle? Oh, it looks like some HC is being sufficated in the middle.

Zooming further in. There is a fully engulfed piece of pretious HC, and we all know that this is what claso does. It sucks the life out of smaller less fortunate foreground plants. WE HATE CLADO....

Hopefully my amano's are up to the task. Here is a pic of one of the chosen ones.

Peace,
Ry

I raise my sword in the air in the battle against clado. I have been beaten in this battle but the war is not over. As my wounds heal I amass another army, an army with many legs, an army of Amano's......

I thrust my tridant into the mass of medusa like staghorn. I am wounded but I refuse to take a knee.

Cool! Me too.

I tried raising my lights a little higher. I'll see if that works out for me.

Yes, and I'll reask my question, too, since this might be a better long-term home for it.

How does clado differ from "hair" algae? Are they one in the same? Or is clado a form of 'hair' algae?

Sir, this message just arrived from General Ryzilla: He has dispatched a 'small' elite detachment of 'commanos' deep behind enemy lines to infiltrate a Clado 'stronghold' at 0200 hours.

WHAT??? That crazy son-of-a-gun!! Who gave the 'green' light for this operation...it's gonna be 'hairy' in there.

Clado is branched, hair is not.

Re: Excel, if you squirt it directly on the Clado, it will be dead the next day.

Okay Adrian, I think you might be in need of some medical assistance. Psychiatric, that is.

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but why would you say something like that to stranger? I certainly wouldn't.

I was just trying to be silly with that post.

My results:
7 amanos - no notable change
70 amanos - no more clado

I have no idea where the line is drawn where they eat it faster than it grows, but it doesn't sound like you have enough.

see, that is the thing. I think that amano's eat this stuff, but its so damn hardy of an algae that you need to overstock amano's to control it. So that is why I have 5 in my 2.5g. I would say that is clearly overstocked.

Peace,
Ry
