Ordered and now waiting. Does it have to be soaked? If so, how long? How long did your order take to get to you?

The order shipped across country, so I imagine that is going to depend on how far you are from the vendor.

You have to soak the wood. If you don't, its going to float. My suggestion is to soak the wood for as long as it takes to sink! Soak it longer if you want to rid the wood of as much tannins as you can.

I soaked mine for a month, changing the water daily. Good times!

I'm in california also, so shipping should be fast, but how long did they take to prepare for the shipping?

He ships fast. My Root burl was about $25 and the shipping just under $25. Mine soaked for 3+ weeks outside. Maybe changed the water once a week. Pretty scummy and then scrubbed and bleach washed then soaked another 2 days in FW. Once introduced into the tank, it had a pretty serious case of mold, but with no harm to the fish. The mold lasted ~ 2.5 weeks.
I requested a "substantial" piece as opposed to the assortment of smaller branches since I wanted something more like root stump. He also threw in a nice extra branch. I highly recommend Rich's company. Mine was sandblasted.

I paid like 35 bucks...i emailed rich and asked for that . Rich O'Brien is the guy there, so email him <his email is on the site> and tell him what you want it for and he can hook you up based on your tanks size....etc.

I also had a little bit of that wood mold that happens for a while but it was no big deal other than being an eyesore for a couple of weeks.

fresh_newby, in your tank pictures, what type of wood is that tall slender dark piece (there are two tall pieces that reach the top of the tank on the left)? It looks darker than sand blasted manzanita. I've been searching for a branchy type of wood that has a darker color to it for my new tank.
