Anyone using sponge filters?

I have a 55 gallon w/ a jebo odyssea CFS4

In the tank i have a big arse DIY sponge filter which i placed in there to make sure it cycled properly. The tank has been set up for a few months w/ 5angels/2clown loaches/8otos and a few cories. It looks horrible and i was wondering if anyone else kept sponges in the tank. It takes a bunch of room and w/ the jebo set up i dont know how much good it is actually doing.

Lemme know

i used to have two sponge filters in a discus grow out tank. they worked well for me at the time. but, for a planted tank i dont think its a good option. if u have a canister filter, y do u need the sponge one? u said u used it to make sure ur tank is properly cycled. if it has been set up for a few months then it should be all cycled by now.
