copper theft try blamed in man's electrocution
A man who climbed a telephone pole in an attempt to steal copper was electrocuted Sunday afternoon in West Dallas, police said. Dallas police Senior Cpl. Jamie Matthews said the man, who hadn't been identified, cut a live wire as he tried to steal copper from the pole about 3:30 p.m. in a vacant lot in the 1800 block of Muncie Avenue, near Hampton Road and Singleton Boulevard. The incident appeared to be an accidental electrocution, she said. Detectives will try to determine whether the man, thought to be in his 40s, was involved with recent copper thefts in the Dallas area, she said.
