LFS credit for trade ins

Just curious as to how much I could reasonably expect to receive for trading in red cherry shrimp for credit at my LFS? Anyone care to share?

From my experience, you will usually receive anywhere from one-third to one-half of the livestock's retail value for in-store credit. It depends on the LFS, but be sure to call ahead and ask if they can take/need your cherries first.

I wish I had an LFS that would take them. The best offer I've gotten was a coupon.

I only get 1/3 credit when I know what their selling price is ahead of time. Otherwise, they cheat me a little bit. But I can't blame them as it is their profit at stake.

On the flip side, the last time they got RCS in, the price was down from $9.99 to $5.99 (which made my last trade 1/4 credit).

They were really selling red cherry shrimp for $9.99? Wow!

I expected credit to vary but I wanted to know roughly what I could bargain for. The not so local LFS is actually very interested in having me bring some in, but knowing how well cherries breed I'd like to get a good deal the first time around in case they no longer need me to bring them in in the future. Thanks for your input.

One problem with the lfs is they want more mature shrimp so the colors display well.

I get .75 - $1.00 each for adults and do not accept store credit, that is like getting .40 each with their markup......DC

i don't know what the story is with most places, but i work at a lfs and we give half. it doesn't cut into the profits, because that's what they'd be paying to buy the fish wholesale anyway. i think they like buying from local people better too. maybe this store is an exception.

I guess wholesale costs have risen quite abit since I managed a LFS in Calif. We marked our fish up an average of 300 to 350% and were still the cheapest place around.

I don't know of any places in Lancaster,PA that take fish/shrimp for store credit... I know That Fish Place does not do it very often unless it is something they are really looking for. If any of you other Lancaster peeps know of a place.... please let me know

I generally get store credit at 1/3 retail, but I have just given plants to a lfs, next time I was in I got $10 worth of fish for free!

My LPS gives about 1/3 credit of the original price. Once they sold 3 cherry shrimps for $27.00 bucks, this was when RCS were still rare in the hobby.
