Newbie Saying Hello!!
I've been reading through your posts as I've been researching for my new tank and want to thank you for all the excellent advice, experience and general helpfulness you guys bring to this forum. I hope as time goes on I will be able to paricipate and add my lessons learned as well. I started up what I hope to be a Low Tech tank last week. 55 gallon with eco complete for the substrate. The tank came from a friend with some gold fish and after a week everything seems cycled and good to go. I stole some ideas on design from the gallery and got some rocks yesterday. Looking sharp. Now it's time for some plants and some fish. And a light of course. While I have a tech head and understand biology and chemistry I'm going to try to keep it simple and regulate the tank balancing the volume of plants, fish and light without using "ferts" or CO2 if I can help it. It seems the broader leaved plants are the way to go for low light. I'd like to have an assortment of small schooling fish and some cleaners for my live stock. I understand goldfish can be a problem in a planted tank and wonder if the LFS will generally take them in or trade for new. They are healthy and strong with clean healthy fins. Just wanted to say hello. Once I get a camera I'll post my tank. I expect you'll be hearing from me once I experience and algea bloom or another disaster!! Wish Me Luck!
