Tiny white bugs crawling around the substrate?

Just checked my tank out and there's THOUSANDS of tiny white bugs crawling in and around the substrate. They also love to crawl all over a piece of driftwood /w moss I have in the tank. Could these be bad for the tank? I have about 30 small fish in the tank right now, so I guess they aren't really eating them. The only place I see them are on the bottom of the tank.

I have a bunch of those too in my shrimp tank... only a few now but I only noticed 1 a few days ago. They look like little fleas. Kinda like mini seeds that can swim/crawl. I don't want to add any fish that would eat them, for fear that they would eat my little shrimp. Anyone know of a way to get rid of them... is there even a need to? The only thing I'm worried about is having a population explosion of them and making my tank look like a rat hole.

I have the same thing. They don't bother anything to my knowledge and probably eat a little debris so what's the harm.....Mine are about half a milllimeter long, with tiny antennae. I think they are called springtails.

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....

Springtails, Collembola, live _above the water_ jumping on the water surface and floating plant leaves. They can't live underwater.

The most common small creatures (under 5 millimetres) that live in the aquarium are:

Cyclops, Copepoda

Seed shrimps, Ostracoda

There's also some other creatures, but in my experience those two are the most common ones found from the hobbyists tanks. There's also water fleas (Daphnia), Hydra, many different kinds of worms, sponges, moss animals, microscopic little ones (water bears, rotifers, infusoria...), maybe also some bigger ones like scuds (Gammarus) and insect larvae.
