Hygrophila Polysperma

Hi,
When hygrophila polysperma reaches the top of the aquarium, what is the best thing to do with it? Can you just cut the top 2/3 inch off it and it will be alright?

Two solutions:

If you have enough of it, you could just rip it out, cut it in half, and replant the top part.

If you want to get a thicker stand, cut it in half, leave the bottom part in place, and plant the top, resulting in twice as many plants.

To add on to this you can also cut it in half replant the op and float the bottom. If you have enough light you will get alot of new stems from the floating stem.

Peace,

H. polysperma grows like crazy. You should soon have more than you know what to do with. Keep in mind, I think this is classified as a 'noxious weed' throughout most of the US.

thanks for the replies guys, think ill just trim the top couple of inch off each time it reaches the top because I have enough stems as it is.

I agree it does grow like crazy, mine grows about half an inch a day and thats with <1 WPG.

The best way to trim is to run your hand down the stalk to a node that is is growing out at approximately the height you desire and pinch it off above the node. Do this to all the stalks and shape it to your desire.
