What kind of lighting will/do you have? You should fill it with fast growing plants at the beginning and then slowly replace those with the plants you would like to keep for a while. This will help fend off some initial algae and save you from killing the nicer and/or more expensive plants. If you haven't done so yet, read Rex's guide. www.rexgrigg.com

Hopefully this doesn't end up sounding harsh, but it'll be easier for people to give you advice if you gave specifics, instead of generalities. Example:

Filter - 350 GPH canister (Eheim model #, etc)
Ammonia - 2 ppm, 0 ppm, etc
pH = 6.8, etc

Fine doesn't tell us much and neither does a 75 gallon filter (rated for 75 gallons or 75 gallons per hour). Most of the time, the ratings aren't sufficient..for instance, I run a Fluval 204 in my 20 gallon. That filter is rate for a 50+ gallon tank, I think.

Filstar pimp #59 (shhhh on the Eheim)

Take a few minutes and read my Guide. Then come back with specifics.

oh dude not at all harsh, im sorry i was in a rush when i wrote this we were going up north so......

anyway yes rex ive read your guide and its very impressive, now i bought my BIOWHEEL prior to reading your guide, now seeing that it wasnt the brightest, and it is made for 75 gallon tanks.

For the lighting i recounted, 49 watts pushing not 50 so im about 1 watt per gallon. DO I NEED 3 WATTS PER GALLON? if so could I use a Reptile lamp

Now for plants i have a melon sword and a dwarf hair grass. looking to get more plants but i spent alot of money on the tank and the stand.

* should i put fish in yet?
* ^^ how about shrimp?
* also i bought a 50 galloon tall, is that ok.

thanx write back soon
