I have a Madagascar cichlid tank with crushed corals mix as substrate. I was wondering what can I do to help grow and maintain a healthy group of plants. I currently have just a few small plants that are doing ok. I just started to introduce the plants to see how they will do with my water parameter. At the moment they are doing well, a few of the plants are shooting leaves all over the place. I would like to eventually re-work the whole aquarium and rearrange the decorations and add more plants to provide a good foreground-midground and background to the tank.
?: How will the plants do with a high pH; around 8.0-8.2 (long term), I leave in Maryland so the water is not too hard.
I use a tetra product as plant fertilizer. Should I use other types of fertilizer or additives?
I was thinking of adding a home made CO2 injector to the tank.
What plants are hardy enough to handle such water parameters?
As I have mentioned, I would like to have a well balanced planted tank with the front-middle and background well planted.
Thanks for your time and help.
