Lots of flow will cause your plants to blow around too much possibly uprooting them. Spray bars are used a lot to help divert the flow out so you get a nice swaying action instead of blowing the plants around. I've used powerheads to move water from the back to the front and it gives the plants a nice swaying action. Plus it will end up flowing down and over the bottom to help move detrius to the filter.

Well i have a sump system and those r my only options. Which return size will give better flow so plants dont get uprooted? There will be 4 nozzles.

what size is the tank? I would go 3/4 so you can push the same amount of water, it just won't come out as strong.

265 gal. So 3/4" will have less velocity and less flow than 1/2"?
I just wanna make sure plants stay in place.

This used to be a reef and in reef u want as much flow as possible since corals wont be displaced like plants. Now i need to do opposite and more even flow all around.

Re: What overflow return is better for plants?

The bigger the return is the less pressure. Think of a water hose. When you put your finger on the end, you make the outlet smaller which increases pressure. I've got a 210gal but I changed my return to be 1.5".
