Talking Oh. My. God. Did my angles lay eggs?

I woke up this morning to find this all in the corner of my tank. Two of my Koi Angles are staying pretty close to it and one just dive bombed my Clown loach (never seen that happen before). Am I gonna be a grandpa? If it is eggs how can I do a water change without killing the eggs?

Yes those are eggs

You can do a water change I am pretty sure, just don't let the eggs be exposed to long.

Chances are if this is their first eggs they will probably eat them.

They seem pretty protective so far, fanning them and running other fish off. How long does it take for the eggs to hatch?

If you're lucky, they will all be acute when they hatch.

They'll be wriggling in three days, free swim in six, eaten by the other tank mates in nine. At least, that's what mine do.

time to order some brine shrimp eggs and build a hatchery (tons of guides on how to do this, its very easy, and very cheap).
and to set up a fry tank to move them to if you have anything in there that would eat them (and you said you have a loach, so i would).

be sure to post pics for us.

i wouldnt do a water change right now. if the angels just layed eggs, that means the water cant be that bad anyway.

As others have mentioned, if this is a community tank it is unlikely the fry will get much past free swimming. If you do decide to assist, search this forum for tons of info on the process.

I wanted to comment with something similar, but yours was better than I could have come up with.

They get really pissed if you get too close to the glass. I put my finger in and they both bit the heck outta my finger.

My male has figured out how to splash what seems like a half pint of water with his tail.

I wouldn't stress them too much. Having a hundred kids to look after sounds stressful enough.

I hope that they will hatch and then grow up to not be so obtuse like their parents.
