I am still digital camera-less, so I don't have a picture...but here is a description:

Golden-bronze shell, slightly ovular/conical. About 1 cm long. Not nocturnal. Seems to enjoy eating crud off the glass. Often, floats on the water surface (upside-down with a big bubble on its butt) eating crap off the surface.

So...any ideas? I think it came from some plants I got from floridadriftwood.com, but I am not sure (I've gotten plants from a few LFSs). All plants were soaked in alum for about 24 hours and I didn't notice the snails until a few weeks after purchase.

So far the plants seem unaffected...so for now it'll remain in the tank.

Is it one of those?

If so, it can become a pest, not because it is eating plants, but just by overpopulating. I even bought some Yoyo loaches to get rid of them.

There needs to be an end all snail identification guide.

I have a few that have transluscent white conical shells (like the picture above) with some slight reddish or brownish patterns on the tip of the swirl. They have gotten to be the size of pencil erasers. I usually pick them out of the tank if I see them while I'm cleaning. I have only ever seen 2 at once so they don't seem to be too prolific.
