Arrow Back to Planted Tank Basics with 60p - questions

Hi all,
I want to go back to basics on planted tanks and ask some questions.
My ADA 60p has been set up for about 2 years, and has gone through periods of success with an HC carpet, then Blyxa, and now it is in the process of being rescaped and replanted again with some manzanita in addition to the preexisting Seiryu stone. Between short periods of sucess, i run into sickly plant growth and algae. I dose Brighty K and green something step 2.. Daily as per bottle directions.. 50% WC each week. Am I dosing enough stuff? Give me all the suggestions you got!! I want this tank to thrive all the time not just survive.

My questions are: I consistently run into small algae growth on leaves and rocks, even when I have high plant mass. Inadequate amount of CO2? 2 x 24w t5ho too much light? (1 bulb looks so... Not high light).

My next question is, are my parameters and setup/maintenance adequate for soft water plants? Ie syngonanthus, etc?

I am adding a drop checker this week... I have a little bit of surface break from added submersible, but never know if it is possible to have too much co2 (besides gassing the fish)?

I WC with tap, ph 7.6, GH 2, kh 1-2.. Similar to my tank params.

Thanks!!! Sorry so many random questions!

Here are most recent water parameters:
Tested pH with "High range" kit: 7.4
Normal API kit: 7.6
GH: 1-2
KH: 1

- 60P
- 2-3" aquasoil NEW type
- Catalina 24w x 2 T5HO
- Hydor inline heater
- 5lb CO2 w/ ok regulator (keeps a steady bps) and solenoid
- Eheim 2215 with Lily pipe outflow (totally not enough flow for this tank)
- additional 80 gph submersible for more flow hidden in rear corner

Clean Filter, Trim Plants, Change Water, Dose Fertz, Feed Fish, Repeat!

Try adding more or less of one thing for a couple of weeks. If things improve you are on to something. If things don't change then you were fine before.

My tank needs more phosphate than EI suggests for instance but more micro nutrient mix doesn't seem to make any difference. Even though my water has 3-4 GH it did better with GH booster and when that was gone I used separate powders and found that more calcium didn't change things but more magnesium did.

Try placing the powerhead so its flow supports the lily pipe, maybe that would improve circulation.

Raise or lower the light a couple inches. Increase the day by an hour, decrease by an hour.

Just do one thing at a time so you know what is helping and don't go crazy, increase a given parameter by no more than 25%.
