Using terrestrial mosses

I wasnt sure about this so i thought id ask here first. Id heard some people were using terrestrial mosses in their tanks. I have some nice moss outside my house in my front garden. How would this fair in my 10 gallon? Does it stay alive or what?

I tried using it in my river tank years ago. I placed a lot of it on the slate that was used for waterfalls and it did so-so, but it wasn’t completely submerged. Pieces that did make it underwater died.

it really depends on the species... out of maye a dozen different types that i've found around me only one has actually shown growth in a tank. that one wasn't even growing near water, either. it was growing on a tree trunk.

go for it. experiment! but try a couple different ones for luck.
if the moss you're looking to use though is a polytrichum (a pretty common, spiky lawn-moss) i've not had any luck with those.
