Driftwood??

Does driftwood start to stink after its been in the aquarium after a while? I was rearranging the driftwood in an aquarium and when i moved one of the pieces, a horrible stench started to come from the aquarium, it smelled like a sewer.

It sounds like you disturbed a pocket of anaerobic bacteria, either in the wood or in the substrate where the wood was.
