My 2.5g nasty tank. No pics just story

Well I have a 2.5g nano with redramshorns and cherry shrimp. It only has HM planted in it. Let me tell you about the overload of microrganisms in this tank(its sick). I got planeria, segmented worms, worm like larva of some sort that wiggles like crazy, little fast crawling buggers that zip around on the glass and barley visible to the eye, some green water, baby snails all over the place, and baby cherry shrimp. Well to kill the infusoria(green water) I am doing a black out. Its only been one day and I checked up on the nano and low and behold every possible worm was on the glass, they must love the dark. There was like 100+ segmented worms, 100+baby snails, 100+planeria (EWWWWW!!!), and hundreds and hundreds of these fast zippy little buggers. I do weekly water changes to combat the microrganisms but since the HM is such a thick carpet it seems that it is perfect breeding grounds. I wish I had a 12x zoom camera because I would gross all of you out.

Furthermore, planeria is gross but by far the coolest critter in there. I think it eats the other worms because I can see that it has something in their stomachs every now and then that looks like a worm. It can compact itself or elongate. They can move fast if bothered. I cant wait until my 10g is ready for my cherries so I can move them out of this 2.5g ghetto.

Peace,
Ry

Neat! Maybe you can stick a vertebrate predator in there for a while to help speed up the cleaning process. If the water parameters are OK, a betta might have a great time hunting.

Crazy... How do you plan on moving the shrimp and snails without taking along some hitchhikers?

I have no idea how I wont get any hitchhikers. I think the problem with the 2.5g is no filtration. There is nothing to suck up those little critters. Its also the mass amount of HM in there. I bet I can get it to completley fill the 2.5g through the top. I cant wait to get rid of it.

Peace,
Ry

When you pull out the cherries, snails, and plants put a capful of bleach in the tank. Then watch as the entire disgusting worm population withers and dies.

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....

Why are these organisms bad? Wouldn't they help eat un-eaten food & aerate the soil?

I agree with Mori...think of the fun a little female betta rescued from Wally-Mart would have in there

I didn't have filtration in my 2.5 shrimp tank for a while. I think that's why they died, even with water changes. I freaked out and thew them in my 30gal community. I had the same problem with the like micro organisms, mine probably would have gotten the same way it I didn't call it quits soo early.
