substrait algae...

Well I finally got my glosso to grow horizontally...the but now just as it started taking off...a matt like algae is taking over on my floor (of the tank). Is there a good fish to clean that up or a shrimp that will do it. I've been vaccumeing it up durring water changes but it eventually comes back...and is getting tougher. I'd like a critter that disturbs the substrait a bit...but not one that will eat all my glosso. Any Ideas?

Describe the algae. If it forms mats on the substrate, it is likely to be blue green algae or cyanobacteria. Whenever I had it, it was because nitrates were too low, although it can show up at any time when the nutrient balance is on the fritz. Maracyn (erythromycin phosphate) will kill it, but it will keep coming back if you don't target the source i.e. nutrients.

In college....so no aquariums for a while.....
