In Costa Rica....anything I can bring back?

ok, so let's say i have an importers license and can legally bring back plants. does anybody know whether all the plants in the rainforest that i keep seeing can be grown under water? I am about to take a tour of the forest on horseback around some giant volcano....the forest is covered in streams etc...can i just rip things out of the water and bring them back? or do i need to have it identified by some agency? there are tons of awesome rocks and driftwood as well.

i was also thinking of bringing some of these things back to a pet store and have them mail it to me once it has been identified and properly processed through the system. i don't want to be breaking any laws.

thanks.

I've been to Costa Rica three times, it's an absolutely beautiful country. There are certainly interesting aquatic plants that you can find if you look in the right places (Rio Celeste has a lot), but I don't think it's worth the hassle to a) find an area that you can legally collect plants from, b) get a phytosanitary certificate for them through the CR government, and c) obtain an importing license.

Cost Rica is extremely strict. I think there is probably no chance at all for exporting any wildlife or wild plants. If you try to smuggle stuff out and they catch you they will bust you really hard.

Before you go " just rip things out of the water" you might want to Google, " Costa Rica Fer-de-lance viper".

At least with Customs Violation your just sitting in a 3rd world prison.
