What are the effects of using an old PC light on your tank..

What are the effects of using an old PC light on your tank..

e.g. I have had my JBJ light fixture for about 10 months. I have not changed the bulbs yet.
I was wondering how much longer I can delay buying new bulbs

But most importantly I would like to know how these old bulbs will affect my tank.
(Algae, slow growth, or something else.)

Thanks

After the first 100 hours or so the light will lose some of it's brightness. You can run PC bulbs until they burn out with very little if any effect on the plants.

My understanding is you save money and make life easier for yourself.

Most of what I've read says that they are fairly efficient throughout their useful lives. I actually had a 55w CF go out the other day. I think that's my first one I've ever had die (in 3+ years). So, now I can fall back on my spares I bought when I was replacing them every 12 months .

I meant that I've heard running PCs until they blow out means you are avoiding the unneccessary expense and trouble of replacing PC bulbs that are still good and probably don't need to be replaced
