Question CO2 Reactor for a 240 Gallon Tank??

A LFS wants put CO2 into a ~240 gallon tank. Its around 6'X2'x30"tall. Can one use a traditional Hoff/Rex type reactor with say an XP3? Would he be advised to make the reactor out of 3" PVC and extra long like 26" tall, or would it be better to use a manifold and run a couple of reactors on multiple cannister filters?

Thanks for the help. I told him I would put this question out to the forum as I really have no experience with such a big tank.

Personally I would just run one controlled reactor. I would go with 2" diameter and about 30" long. And I would run it from a pump instead of a canister filter. A Rio+ 1100 or the like.

Cool Thanx rex. When you say one controlled reactor, you don't mean pH controled do you. Just one reactor with a rio or a some similar pump?

I run a 12" tall, 2" diameter reactor over my 200 gallon, and that's more than enough, a lot more. I use a 3700 l/h pump to drive it though.

B-

Does the tank have a sump or is it a cansiter?
Most large LFs tanks use sumps.

There is a different design, it's actually easier to make than the in line type and has no backpressure at all.

I'll do a pic series of it on my site in the public section.
It's very easy to make.

The flow pattern from the output of any CO2 reactor or sump return is critical on larger tanks, the CO2/return water needs to be evenly and rapidly distributed throughout the tank.

He is in the process of a complete makeover. There isn't a sump, but he might put a wet dry on it. I think all options are open at this point. There is a wall behind it so he can do what ever he wants. Right now there is just a gigantic sponge and pump on it. I'll ask. I'll go look at your site for it. Can you let us know when the pic is up. Thanks! bob
