HELP! I got ICK

I have medication, but I dont know if it is safe on the plants? It's called "Ick Clear", its tablets that you drop into the water and they fizz and turn blue. is it safe for my plants?

It's most likely safe for your plants but do you have any invertebrates? It will almost certainly kill them. You could try upping the heat and adding salt. Many people do that instead of medications.

the only invertebrates in my tank are mystery snails. I hope they all die.. Maybe I can kill two birds with one stone.

from my personal exp. Ditch the meds... at first. get your temp up as high as possible... high 80's-low 90's... then after a day or two then apply the meds. ick or ich (both spellings for the same thing) cant be treated while its in the fish... there is a great article out there somewhere. if you search fish newb ich... maybe you will find my thread where someone posted it....

good luck! i didnt loose any of my fish from ich...

Just had a big outbreak in 3 tanks of ich. (All Planted) I used 3 different meds. One friendly to neons, one general, and one 'jungle buddy' type fizzy tablet (that I prayed wouldn't kill my shrimp). All three have seemed to work well and no plants were harmed at all with any of the treatements. I may need to re-treat in a week after water change though in the shrimp and guppy tank with the fizzy since I under-dosed and will have to see if it comes back.

However, I do agree... raise that temp up before treatment and try to get all the critters into the water to die with treatment.

Oh... and I did have to remove my sodonis cat to a treatment tank, since he just hid in a log and the treatment wasn't flowing in there enough to kill it. If you have 'hiding' type fish you may want to get them into a treatment tank to get it killed off.

Something so expensive and addictive HAS to be illegal. I'm just waiting for the police to break down my door and confinscate my fish food.

Neon friendly treatment? Can you elaborate? Are they sensitive to normal meds?

Yes. If you have neons, make sure your treatement is safe for tetras. Your fizzy tablet will most likely tell you to use half treatment level for tetras or non-scale species. My husband killed all my neons accidentally when he treated for ick a long time ago when I was on vacation.

Thanks. I have Cardinals. I have 5 otos in that tank, so I used the half treatment. I didn't use the fizzy tabs. I use API's Ick Cure. It saved about half of my school. The other half were too far gone.

Sorry to hear that, but glad you saved the ones you did.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. I used something called "super ich plus". I cant see anymore ich on my fish, so I hope its all gone. I'm gonna dose the meds one more time just to make sure. I wasnt sure if ottos were more sensitive to the meds that my tiger barbs because they dont have scales, so I only used 1/2 dosages and all my ottos survived. the plants didnt seem to mined at all.

Yes, make sure you wait. I've had multiple outbreaks in the past, because I stopped treatment too soon.
