Depends, but I would expect it to last no more than a couple of months. I run a 20# tank on my 125g and it lasts about 13 months.

A few variables.

1. how are you diffusing it, how efficient is your reactor?
2. how much saturation you want?
3. are you going to run it 24/7? or turn it off with the lights?

I run a 5lb bottle on a 55G, an it lasts me about 2 months with it crankin 24/7, but my reactor isn't as efficient as it could be. I run about 2 bbs. I am going to re plumb everything sometime in the near future.

Guess it helps if ya plumb everything right the first time!!

Wow only two months? I was hoping my 5lb would last at least 6 months on my 75 gallon! I better go check on that thing!

Although a 20 lb costs about $50 bucks more at my local welding shop, the refill is only $3.00 more for the extra 10lbs. So instead of $12 refill for 10lb its $15 for a 20lb. So after about 15 years of gas the larger tank pays for itself. If you factor in driving expenses and your time, maybe after 5 years, assuming you use 10lbs every 8 months or so. Anyhow, its worth thinking of getting a bigger tank, like the aluminum 20 pounder. I'm going that route on my next refill...

I would love a larger tank but nothing bigger would fit in my stand and I wouldn't want it sitting external with kids in the house.

Yeah, I have thought of building a tall rectangular box and trimmed out to match my stand and turn it upside down over the gas tank setup. It would be a handy table for fish food etc... or a beer.
