Low tech foreground?

I'm looking for a good foreground plant for my 12L, so far I've narrowed it down to utricularia graminifolia and staurogyne sp. Porto Velho. What would it take to grow the two of these?

I will not be running CO2 in this tank as I plan on using it for CRS breeding. As far as light goes I'm expecting to have med/high light

If you have medium/high light you will also need to have good CO2 to avoid stunting the growth of the plants, and inviting algae to take over the tank. Why not just use low light?

I can't find a decent 36" fixture that will give me low light without being 2'+ above the tank! If I could I'd definitely want to go low light

I had my fugeray suspended above mine for low light, but it wasn't anywhere near 2' or more. You could also do a couple clip on lights with 13w cfls.

ETA: As far as your original question, have you considered dwarf pennywort? I'm starting one with hydrocotyle sibthorpioides and it's growing really fast with just the occasional liquid ferts. You just keep poking the runners down into the substrate as it grows.

Really? I was under the impression the fugeray put out much more par than would allow that, I'll definitely look into that fixture then!

There are two different ones, the fugeray and the ray 2. The original fugeray is what you would want. If you look in the Finnex subforum in the sponsor section you'll see a post with the par data for them. Take a look through the 12g long club thread too. Quite a few people use the marineland double bright fixture as well.
