Black Star Rock? Safe for inverts and plants?

I've never used black star rock with inverts or plants. I know black star rock is safe for fish, but is it safe for inverts and plants? Black star rock also known as black shale rock and some cases black moon rock (who in the world comes up with these funny names?). Planning on using these as a substitue to Seiryu stones.

The ones used in aquariums usually looks like these

If it's safe for fish, it's probably fine then.

The pic of the rocks in the box look kinda like slate, and that's generally safe for fish.

Not sure about shale, but shale covers a pretty wide range of minerals- it's basically mud/silt turned into a rock.

Sounds good thanks! I'm not sure if black star rock is shale. I was asking about it because some rocks leech out minerals like Sieryu stones.
