dumb question-- when a planted tank is well established and you clean the gravel, does it damage the roots. I have 4 Botia Lochata, 3 Thai Flying Foxes, and two Dwarf Rainbows. so between leftover food and excrement the gravel needs to be cleaned, but I am usually moving the roots around. am I worried about nothing.

Some plants do react poorly to having their roots disturbed, like my Crypts. But when I aerate the roots of my Amazon Swords, they seem to do even better. Keep the disturbance to a minimum and just try to vacuum the surface mulm without pulling up more than the top layer of gravel.
