advise needed on 'semi' starting up. (Iwugami)
For 1,5 years i have a aquarium and i have decided to strart a new scape (iwagumi).
I transferred my fish and shrimp into a nano aquarium with the water from my orignal aquarium. Im also using the filter of my aquarium for the nano.
So i bought new substrate including the underlayer with nutrient (i dont know the english word).
So today im ready to setup my iwugami and plant my HC + dwarf hairgrass.
When i im done planting i will add water and now i have a question. Im going tp take my external filter from the nano again and install it in the aquarium. I have not cleaned the filter material so the baceria should still be living happely in the filter (hence the 'semi' in the title.)
So, using a new substrate, fresh water, 'old' filter. Are the chances of getting a algae problem still an issue? I know its hard to tell since every aquarium is different but i have never done this before.
I always had my lights on for 12 hours every day, i think im going back to 7 hours per day and adding 1 hour every week. is that ok or not neccesary?
How about water changes? i normally do 35% every week, how often should i do it now and how much?
I know about starting up a new aquarium but i would like to know if this changes when using a a filter that already has its bacteria.
Ow, one more thing. Is it a MUST to add extra pants next to the HC and dwarf hairgrass to decrease/prevent algae in my case?
