Snails

Ok....here's a quesion I have never gotten a definite answer on.....are the snails that come on my plants actually hurting or helping anything? I mean I don't consider them particularly unsightly, but are they worth my time removing? I've heard some people clain that they damage plants but I've never seen any proof of this whatsoever. Who knows for sure?

I have small ramshorn snails and some other small cone shaped snail(not MTS) that don't seam to eat any plants. Some will eat algae from glass and plants. Malaysian trumpet snails are sometimes used to keep the substrate stirred so it does not build up anaerobic pockets.

I have little snails that hitch hicked on a plant I bought. When algy isnt bad they dont do much, but when there is algy to eat on the plants they kill alot of leaves. They seem to only eat the leaves that are dying

I've read that there certainly are types of snails that will eat the plants...and I think they can look pretty similar to the kind, gentle snails. IME, I've had snails for years and I've never noted them doing any "new" damage to my plants. So, I don't worry too much about them.

Having said that, I have added a number of loaches, partly for snail control but mostly because I think they look pretty cool. The loaches have controlled the population somewhat, but I do still have visible snails at all times.
