Lumens and K in lighting

I have a really quick questions guys. Does the Kelvin and lumens affect plant growth or is it just so that the color of the plant can be as close as natural as possible?

Within normal limits, the Kelvin determines how the aquarium looks to us. The plants don't care that much.

I think that the important thing is the amount of light energy that reaches the plants. Lumens, watts, and lux are attempts to approximate that. Lux (essentially, the energy at a certain distance from the light source) makes some sense to me. There are other, better measures.
