Crushed coral and its effect on Ph

I am thining about adding some crushed coral to my Emporer filter to try and ad some calcium to my tank for the snails I will be adding. Will this crushed coral effect my Ph?

Crushed coral is calcium carbonate, so it will raise alkalikity, therefore, yes, it will raise the pH.

To add calcium to the tank (and raise gH) use calcium chloride (fast dissolving) or calcium sulfate (slow dissolving).

The use of crushed coral will raise both kH and gH and of course pH. It's a good method of doing so as long as you are not concerned about the exact levels of gH and kH in your tank.

If you want more control then use the substances that Hypancistrus suggested.

But if you have decent gH to start with and do regular water changes calcium should not be a problem.

crushed oyster shell might accomplish the same thing...

plus its only 10 bucks for 50 #'s.
