I have a bunch of aponogetrons in my 15g tall tank. They're getting round holes in the leaves. It is not snail damage, as the puffers take care of any snails that find their way into the tank. What's causing these holes?

I have the same problem in some swords i added a week ago, but im just a rookie and this is my first planted tank a simple 20g with a 15 or 20w bulb which im sure is not enough light, but my dream tank is a 55g i have sitting around that i want to make planted with some nice discus and other nice community fish, mostly i deal with plastic plants because i'm very big on cichlids, but i thought it would be nice to put that 55g in my livign room looking very nice, so the 20g is my test tanki guess so i can hve all my mistakes with it instead of a nice 55g with expensive fish

How old are the leaves? I am probably not the best to answer this question because I have personally never had any problems with holes however I did some research and the most common reason that holes form is due to a lack of potassium. I'm sure someone else will be able to answer much better.

rdracer66 swords do not do good at all in low light. THey need very high light and are huge root feeders. SO you need a rich substrate and alot of light to sucessfully keep swords.

I personally kept amazon swords for awhile and they gave me way too much trouble so I eventually gave them away!

Kyle

Fender has your most likely problem...potassium deficiency. If you can find SeaChem Flourish Potassium at your LFS, buy it and add it at double the dose (quantity not frequency) for the first week and then follow the directions for dosing thereafter. If you can't find SeaChem it's fairly easy to mix your own with either Sulfate of Potash or Muriate of Potash. Both are available at most garden/hardware stores. If you decide to go this route I can give you instructions on how to mix it for your tank.

Their is still a possibility that other tank critters are doing the damage. What else is in your tank?

The tank has four green-spotted puffs, two figure-eight puffs, and a generic pl*co... and no, it isn't the pl*co doing the damage. He hasn't touched the plant leaves yet.
