Stink bug in my aquarium!

I found a stink bug floating on the top of my water today when I changed it. For the last two nights, one of my white clouds has been hanging mouth up near the surface. Last weekend, I changed the water at about 2 in the morning because everyone looked pale - rasboras and white clouds.....
Could this have been due to the stink bug in the water?

30g planted with cories, white clouds, Harlequin Rasboras ,ottos.
10g planted with glowlight tetras and an otto.
Outdoor pond with one common goldfish and comets.
5.5g with endlers.

At 2 in the morning were the lights off for a few hours? Fish get pale when the lights are off and color back up in the morning.

is your CO2 still running in the dark. In the dark plants don't use carbon dioxide, beleive it or not some even switch to using oxygen in the dark.
So you might have way too much CO2 for your fishies in the dark. That could also explain their abnormal surface mouth open behavior (trying to get that O2 that is near the surface.

If you've got a ph meter check it and see if the ph is way low at the time the fish are doing that. If you've got a ph controller then this probably won't be happening as the CO2 would shut off if it got to be too much...

If you've got that.. have you calibrated your probe lately to make sure it's accurate?

If the ph/ CO2 level is okay... then your fish are probably doing their normal thing.. my tetras get more pale at night but they don't hang right at the surface.

Wow ok... guess I should stop poking around and staring at my fish at 2am and let them get some sleep!
I use DIY CO2. I turned up my HOB filter and I haven't seen the behaviour since. I have been trying to lower the hardness since about two weeks ago I found that water was way too hard. Time to test the gh/kh I suppose.
I didn't realize they got so pale at night. Good to know. I thought something was really wrong!
