ADA poor mans alternatives

I am thinking since I cant seem to get a high light solution for my aqueon evolve 8 that looks okay or even remotely nice I am going to have to get another aquarium. So far I am thinking of getting a Mr. Aqua 11.4 gallon aquarium with a fugeray 2 which will get me a high light solution. I will need some kind of filter. I guess I will pain the back of the aquarium to hide the ugly cords and equipment. Since I will lose the sump of the aqueon evolve I will need to probably get an inline heater and some sort of canister filter.

Why not use a nice pendant light with a PAR30 or PAR38 LED?
Or a nice looking desklamp with the same LED or even a higher wattage compact fluorescent lamp will work.

A Mr.Aqua 11.4 is nice but kind of boring imo, compared to an Evolve 8 or even just a regular derimmed 10 gallon.

I was trying to understand those lights. What is the par that they put out? I know the par they are labeled with is for something unrelated.

Pendent out of the question no holes. What would be a desk lamp that would work?

You could use this for a pendant: https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=59418
As for desk lamps, you are on your own because I don't know what you've got local to you but I've looked at Ikea and found a few. I also shop our local Habitat for Humanity ReStore (http://www.habitat.org/restores) pretty regular because they get some pretty wild stuff come through every now an again... Case in point, I almost came home with a lamp and credenza/tank stand today

The PAR30 LEDs seem to work, there are a couple threads around here and people get good results, but I'd suggest getting one that can be dimmed and running an inline dimmer on the cord. I haven't used one myself, but seen it done often enough, locally and on here that I know they work. I'd look for one in "daylight" spectrum 5000k or higher, up to around 8000k maybe.

If you really admire the ADA look then don't settle for less. This is a really addictive hobby where if you setup your alternative tank and still admire the ADA look I guarantee you won't be satisfied and will eventually get the ADA down the line. If it's possible then I'd save up some and just spend the extra to get 1 tank instead of like I said, 2 tanks down the road heh
