It would depend on the specific wood/vine species. Some are toxic, some aren't. Also, you wouldn't want to use it if it's freshly cut and even so, I'd be worried about toxins that are washed out of driftwood while they "drift" in the water over long periods of time.
That being said, I'm not a wood expert, so I'm not sure if it has to be actual driftwood, or if the suitable wood types need only be dried?
Just wanted to give some direction though until some one more sure of themselves can help you.
Plants are gone, but my 33gal and I are back after a long hiatus.
