need your feedback

Hi to all. I have read many articles on dosing but still have a few questions. I am new to planted tanks but always had tanks with just fish and plastic decorations to immitate alive plants.
According to Chuck's calculator, 1 ml of any solution adds X ppm to reach the target level of Y ppm. Does it mean that I must add (Y/X) ml of solution every day, except when I do WC, to keep the target level at Y ppm?

As an example: 1 ml of KNO3 ( I mix 100 ml of H2O with 1 tsp of KNO3) will give me 0.91 ppm. Does it mean that I must add roughly 5 ml of KNO3 solution every day (except when I do 50% water change) to my 10 g. tank to keep the target level at 5 ppm?
I will post some pictures of my 10 g. tank later. Thank you in advance for your responses!

I (we) can save you a whole lot of trouble with that type of daily calculation...read up on the Barr Estimative Index for dosing planted tanks. Really easy and takes the guesswork out of constantly testing your water.

Use the search button on the upper right corner of the webpage and you should find great info on a good dosing regime.

Important factors:

1. light
2. CO2 (pressurized is necessary for larger tanks and higher light)
3. lots of plants
4. patience

Re-boot!

I read the E/I method but still due to being fairly new to planted tanks have the same question about ml/day. As I mentioned before, lets say you need to keep your NO3 at 5ppm and 1 ml of your KNO3 solution gives you about 1ppm of NO3, does that mean I need to dose close to 5 ml of my solution every day to keep the level at 5ppm or I have to kind of spread it out and dose lets say 0.9 ml/day? I do 50% water changes weekly.

And this takes into consideration dosing ferts dry (shaking them up in a small water bottle before pouring into the tank...or simply dumping into the tank). Eliminates test kits and worrying about milliters.

Re-boot!
