Most plant weights are NOT lead. But a zinc alloy.

Why take the chances of lead poisoning in your tank. And why do you need plant weights?

I can think of several better ways to hold down Riccia mats that plant weights. Go to the craft store and get some plastic mesh. Cut this to size. Place a small amount of Ricca on top of a flat stone. The place the mesh over the top and tie it on with thin fishing line.

Lead does leach into water. That's why it was banned from plumbing solder.
