Alternate methods of neutralizing tank decor?

I'm wondering if there is some kind of resin coating or solution which you could apply to organic matter that would make it usable underwater without decay. For instance, I'd like to have some leaves and bark strewn about the bottom of a tank, but I can't have them decomposing on me. At the same time, I woudn't want them to look like they are coated...

Does anyone know of a substance that I could coat leaves or bark with that would be safe for the tank and not be a burden on the water? Is it even possible?

Or any other ideas?
